JAMES BETHEL
I am a former NCAA athlete in the sport of wrestling from the State University of New York at Oneonta, where I received my bachelors degree in Communication Studies. I am currently attending the University of Chester on a post-graduate assistantship with the department of Sport and Active Lifestyle, where I am on track to receive my masters in Sport Management and Leadership. In my undergraduate experience in Oneonta, I was a 4 time all-american in D3 wrestling, and an active member of the campus community.
I was a member of the College's Foundation Board where I helped to oversee the college endowment and enrich the student experience. I was also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), where I served as the president for the campus SAAC, and a representative for my institution at the Conference SAAC. I also was involved with multiple honor societies and community experiences, such as doing community service and planning/hosting an annual Yards for Yardley event for relationship violence awareness.
I would consider myself as an outgoing and enthusiastic person, who is consistently looking for ways to grown. I am constantly striving for the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of my life, which is a value that I acquired from my time at SUNY Oneonta. I love to help people, and am a fan of "paying it forward" which is doing good for others in the hope that they might pay that good deed forward and help out someone else who is in need. This is something that I largely attribute to my experience in sports, as it helped me to develop an attitude where i was always looking for ways to improve myself and better my teammates by providing them with help and guidance when it was needed

My ambition is to become an Athletic Director at a college or university. In my time in education, I was highly involved with sports, and through this i was able to see the impact that they had on student-athletes. I would love nothing more than to be able to afford the next generation of student-athletes with opportunities to grow and develop just as I have, and to further increase the power of sport, and the impact that it has on society.
VALUEI value equality, education, and opportunities. I believe that equity is the most important of my values, as without equity, education and opportunities become privileges.
|
MissionMy mission is to enhance the role that that sport plays in personal, team, and community development in order to increase opportunities to succeed both as an athlete, and as an individual.
|
VisionMy vision is to create an athletics environment that promotes equity, education, and opportunities for athletes so that the impact that sports has on the individual transcends their athletic experience, and positively impacts their lives.
|
I am looking for an employer who will be able to reciprocate my effort. I try to add value to everything I partake in, and would expect my employer to put as much effort into me and my development as I do into their organization. I am a firm believer in Human Resource Management Theory where I view employees as the greatest assets to any company, and see the investing in the employee experience as being being paramount to bettering the customer/consumer experience.
I would ideally like to work within the field of sport or athletics, preferably at the college or university level, but am open to all experiences that can be tied to sports. I am approaching life with an open mind, and having experiences across the board, from managing budgets, to overseeing teams and workgroups, I believe that I can be a useful and flexible addition to many different fields of work.
